The Washington State Office of Financial Management Forecasting division (the same folks who advise our Governor and Legislature on the state's finances and budget projections) provided their own
analysis of the proposed troop reductions at JBLM using the state’s research
model (known as REMI).
The state’s model more accurately reflects lost revenue
based on actual Washington state sales tax records and variables that are calibrated
to reflect our economy. The model used in the Army SPEA predicts a $17.4 million
loss in tax revenue while our model shows it at $87.26 million.
