State Ups Ante for Potential Army RIF

How would the reduction of 16,000 Soldiers and Civilian Personnel at JBLM affect you?

In June, the Army announced the publication of the Supplemental Programmatic Environmental Assessment (SPEA) in the Federal Register.

The Washington State Office of Financial Management Forecasting division (the same folks who advise our Governor and Legislature on the state's finances and budget projections) provided their own analysis of the proposed troop reductions at JBLM using the state’s research model (known as REMI).

The state’s model more accurately reflects lost revenue based on actual Washington state sales tax records and variables that are calibrated to reflect our economy.   The model used in the Army SPEA predicts a $17.4 million loss in tax revenue while our model shows it at $87.26 million.
