SSMCP Wins First "Working Across Boundaries" Award

The South Sound Military & Comm- unities Partner- ship (SSMCP) received the first “Working Across Bound- aries” by the Pierce County Regional Council at its General Assembly last night.

Shown after having received the award are Dan Penrose, Program Manager, SSMCP and Col. Charles Hodges, Joint Base Commander, JBLM.

Presented by Josh Brown, Exec. Dir., Puget Sound Regional Council, the SSMCP was cited for enhancing the collaborative and effective working relationship between Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) and the surrounding counties and municipalities/communities.  Among its principal achievements are millions in funding for multiple elementary schools on the installations and upgrade projects along the I-5 Corridor adjacent to JBLM that ease the commercial and commuter traffic loads.

Just late last year, the SSMCP moved from several years of funding by DoD/Office of Economic Adjustment to local funding.  SSMCP's partners include the Tacoma-Pierce Co. Chamber as one of its founding members.
